day, June 25, 2011, at Salem Luther-
an Church, Parkston, S.D., with Rev.
Nicholaus Slater officiating.
parents of the couple are Walter and
Lirda Sc}oenfish and Jeff and Cath
Murtha, all of Parkston. Grandparents
are Bernice Schoenfish and Donley
and Carol Aisenbrey of Menno, S.D.,
John and Anne Murtha of Dimock and
Ron and Marlene Jendersee of Mitch-
ell.
Maid of honor was KrissaMarie
Wiechmann. Bridesmaids were Karisa
Murtha, Danielle McCann, Sara
Boyum and Katie Murtha.
Best man was Andrew Schrank.
Groomsmen were Evan Schmitz,
Bret Werning, Dan Tiede and David
Schoenfish.
Ushers were Kyle Schoenfish, Jus-
tin Moege, Derek Matthies and Joe
Schroeder.
The bride is a 2008 graduate of
Parkston High School. She is current-
ly a senior at the University of South
Dakota majoring in accounting. The
groom is a 2006 graduate of Parkston
High School and a 2010 graduate of
South Dakota State University with a .............
bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
He is a civil engineer at McLaury En-
gineering in Elk Point, S.D.
The couple lives in Vermillion, S.D.

Blankets collected for Pine Ridge Reservation
During National Family Month the Menno
FCCLA Chapter worked jointly with Grace
Lutheran Church of Menno and Christ the
King Lutheran Church of Yankton to collect
blankets for people at the Pine Ridge Reserva-
tion located in western South Dakota.
Christ the King Lutheran Church spear-
headed the blanket drive and set a goal of
collecting 200 blankets of various sizes. Prior
to the Dec. 1 deadline, Dylan Lehr drove to
Yankton to deliver the blankets that were
donated by Grace Lutheran Church and the
Menno FCCLA Chapter. Members from the
Yankton congregation will then deliver the
blankets so the residents can keep warm dur-
ing the winter months.
MHS takes part in Runners Up contest
Several members of the oral interpretation team from Menno High School
took part in the Runners Up Oral Interpretation Contest at Mount Marty
College in Yankton recently. Pictured above are, in the back row, Cheyenne

SDSM&T. He is currently working for

to Longmont, Colo., in 1972.
The couple is now retired and still
live in their own home in east Long-
mont. Their most treasured moments
are family gatherings with their chil-
dren and their extended families.

Equine training class
to be open to the public Dec. 8
The SDSU Equine Issues and Lead-
ership Class of 2011 invites the public
to attend an equine seminar Dec. 8 at 7
p.m., on campus in the Animal Science
Building, room 126/127. *
The seminar shares different dis-
ciplines in the equine industry; from
western and English, to various timed
events. Participants will learn about
behind the scenes training methods
and techniques implicated within dif-
ferent events which yield the perform-
ing athlete commonly seen.
The workshop is free and open to
the public.
Refreshments and poster session
will be offered prior to the event. For

Day County Game, Fish and Parks
Department Conservation Officer Bob
Losco of Webster has been named the
2011 Shikar-Safari Club International
Wildlife Officer of the Year for South
Dakota.
The Shikar-Safari Award is award-
ed annually in all 50 states and in 10
Canadian provinces by that worldwide
conservation organization. It has been
presented to a South Dakota officer
each year since 1968. The award hon-
ors wildlife officers for their perfor-
mances in wildlife protection, wildlife
law enforcement, and implementation
of wildlife conservation programs.
Losco has been with GFP since
1992 and has served as the Day Coun-
ty conservation officer since 1998.
Ben Chambers, now retired conser-
vation officer supervisor in northeast-
ern South Dakota, nominated Losco
for the award, citing his diligent work
with local landowners among many
accomplishments.
Losco was also complimented for
his work with the public, providing
public hunting opportunities, conser-
vation work with the many fish and
wildlife resources found in Day Coun-
ty, and his work with new conserva-
tion officers.
The Shikar-Safari award was pre-
sented to Losco at the Club's annual
banquet in Chamberlain.

John Fuks, 67, of Tabor, S.D., died
Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at Avera
Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30
a.m., Monday, Dec. 5, at St. Benedict
Catholic Church, Yankton, with Rev.
Ken Lulf celebrating and Msgr. Carl-
ton Hermann co-celebrating. Burial
was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery,
Yankton. Military graveside rites by
the Earnest-Bowyer VFW Post 791
and the SDARNG of Sioux Falls, S.D.
Visitation began at 4 p.m., Sunday, at
the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and
Crematory, Yankton, with a rosary at
7 p.m., followed by a Scripture service
at 7:30 p.m., and resumed one hour

OBITUARY
Rex Thomas Harty
Rex Thomas Harty, 74, of rural
Menno, S.D., passed away Sunday,
Nov. 27, 2011 at Avera Sacred Heart
Hospital in Yankton, S.D.
His funeral was held Wednesday,
Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. at the Opsahl-Kostel
Funeral Chapel, Yankton, officiated by
Manny Greet. Burial was in the Yank-
ton Cemetery.
Rex Harty was born Dec. 5, 1936
in Aberdeen, S.D., to Frank and Stella
(Kocer) Harry. While he was young
the family moved to Omaha, Neb.
At the age of 7, his family moved
to Yankton where he attended rural
Yankton schools and graduated from
Yankton High School in 1954. Rex
was baptized Jan. 5, 1957 as one of
bearers were Patrick Hynes, Thomas
Hynes, Tyler Wriedt, Josiah Wriedt,
David Kotab, Matthew Fuks, Doug
Hall and John Cap. Honorary pallbear-
ers were the staff and patients of the
dialysis unit.
John was born March 20, 1944, to
Albert and Ella (Dufek-Carda) Fuks
in Yankton. He graduated from Tabor
High School in 1965 and served in the
US Army from 1966 until his honor-
able discharge in 1968, serving in
Germany during the Vietman Era. He
married Pat Vitek April 18, 1970, at St.
Wenceslans Catholic Church in Tabor.
John enjoyed fishing, NASCAR,
Czech Days and being with his fam-
ily and grandchildren. He liked going
to livestock sales and raised livestock
and sheep (which he loved).
Survivors include his wife Pat of
Tabor; children: Lisa (Kevin) Hynes of
Murdock, Neb., Michelle (Jim) Wriedt
of Norfolk, Neb., Bryan (Christy)
Fuks of Scotland, S.D., Jeffrey (Min-
dy) Fuks of Volga, S.D., and Jessica
(Daniel) Guthmiller of Menno, S.D.;
sisters: Dolores (Don) Kotab of Dante,
S.D., Dorothy (Donald) Caba of Mills
River, N.C., and Lea (Len) Hejl of
Austin, Minn.; grandchildren: Pat-
rick Hynes, Thomas Hynes, Michael
Hynes, Courtney Fuks, Tyler Wriedt,
Josiah Wriedt, Bailee Fuks, Chesney
Fuks, Gabriel Turpin, Lane and Eric
Guthmiller; father-in-law Ivan Vitek;
sister-in-law Charlotte Vitek and sev-
eral nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; brother Joseph Fuks; sister-in-
law Joanne Fuks; and mother-in-law
Albina Vitek.

Goehring and Merle Goehring.
Alice was born May 10, 1915, on
the farm northwest of Freeman, S.D.,
to Henry H. and Elma (Liebl) Goeh-
ring. She was baptized by Rev. Rit-
tershaus and in 1930 was confirmed
by Rev. John Bodenman at Salem
Reformed Church in Menno. She at-
tended country school through eighth
grade. She loved to travel and went to
the Twin Cities doing a few odd jobs.
She visited relatives in California and
lived in San Antonio, Texas, for a short
time. In 1952 she moved to Yankton,
S.D., and lived in her house until 2001
when she moved into the Menno-Oliv-
et Care Center.
She is survived by her two broth-
ers: Leon H. Goehring of Yankton and
Willard (Darlene) Goehring of Menno;
and 10 nephews and nieces.

in-law; Arnold (Meta) Goehring and
Harold (Elsie) Goehring; sister-in-law
Mildred Goehring; and nephew Lloyd

Rex married Shirley Oswald on
Feb. 8, 1958 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The
couple farmed for many years and Rex
started trucking in the mid-1970s. He
retired in 2009, still living on their
farm near Menno.
Rex was an active member of the
Yankton Congregation of Jehovah's
Witnesses. He enjoyed yard working
and occasionally some fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife,
Shirley Harty, Menno; his brothers:
Jerome Harty, Kenyon, Minn., Ken-
neth Harty and LeRoy Harty, both of
Yankton; along with several nieces
and nephews.
Rex was preceded in death by his
parents and one sister, Joanne.
